ABN-AMRO
Bank chooses Tensabarrier in Hungary
ABN-AMRO,
one of the biggest banks in Europe, has decided to develop new interior
styling for all its branches and it has chosen Hungary to test the
new design concept. "After 6 months of discussions between the Hungarian
interior designers, architects and purchasing people and the Dutch
managers of ABN-AMRO the final design specification was agreed. Tensabarrier,
with its international reputation for quality and reliability, was
selected for use in the new scheme," said Marton Szoke, Sales Director
of Tensa. "Subject to the product proving satisfactory, and were quite
confident of that, the system will be used to equip all the older
branches in the country as well."
In the longer term ABN-AMRO intend to use the new design and of course
Tensabarriers which are a part of it, in their branches all over Europe
and eventually throughout the world. On top of this, Budapest Bank,
the 3rd biggest Hungarian bank, a General Electric affiliate, also
use Tensabarriers in all of its branches in Hungary. As Marton Szoke
puts it, "Banks are one of the areas with the highest turnover of
customers. Our exposure in so many of them in Hungary is already leading
to new business opportunities and we are banking on many more!"

Tensabarrier
makes a big splash at Bluewater
- Europe's largest shopping center chooses Tensabarrier
With 320 different shops and 40 restaurants on a 154,000 square
meter site Bluewater is Europe's largest covered shopping center.
Over the next 25 years 30,000 new homes are planned for the catchment
area and research carried out by the University of Reading shows
that there are 10 million people within an hour's drive.
Meticulously planned Bluewater has taken over two and a half years
to complete at a cost of around £350 million. The Australian
property developer behind the landmark, Lend Lease, is determined
to make the shopping experience unique.
Nothing has been left to chance. Over 22,000 consumers have taken
part in group discussions and the whole scheme has been designed
to take their views into account and provide exactly what they want.
What shoppers don't want, of course, is to be caught up in crowds
and to prevent this the Bluewater development team has specified
the use of Tensabarriers in the Wintergarden food court. Variety
and choice will attract shoppers to stay in the complex longer,
with substantial numbers requiring refreshments. they will visit
one of the three entertainment villages which offer a choice of
themed dinning.
The Wintergarden with its family theme houses the McDonald's restaurant
as well as a Villa Pizza and Singapore Sam and is expected to be
a busy spot.
Tensabarriers will be used to allow shoppers to circulate and maintain
access to the central seating area when queues build up at the fast-food
outlets.
"The flexibility of the Tensabarrier system provides us with
a means of dealing with fluctuations in traffic and ensuring our
guests can enjoy their experience here to the full," a member
of the Bluewater team said.
Richard Martin, UK Sales Manager said, "Many of the major retail
outlets in this huge development use Tensabarrier and we have supplied
Standard All-Weather Tensabarriers to Bluewater. Although they are
intended for the Wintergarden they are finished in stainless steel
and can be used outdoors if required. They also have dye-printed
webbing in a special corporate blue featuring the Bluewater logo
and look very stylish. I'm sure these Tensabarriers will make a
big splash at Bluewater."

Big
Mac Savings in Sweden
- McDonald's outlets throughout Sweden save money
with Tensabarrier
McDonald's is now making big savings in Sweden thanks to Tensabarrier
wall units. It has found that by restricting sections of a restaurant
with 2.3m, 3.5m or 7m wall mounted Tensabarriers, cleaning can be
guided to areas that are still operational so they are not inconvenienced
and most importantly the amount of time staff have to be kept on,
after the restaurant closes, is considerably reduced.
Employees obviously benefit as they are not required to work any
later than is necessary and the management benefits as labor costs
are reduced. Fredrik Wejdmark, of Prowejd AB, the Scandinavian Tensabarrier
distributor says, "Calculations carried out by some of the
smaller outlets here in Sweden have indicated that the potential
cost saving for a typical outlet over a twelve month period is considerable.
With Tensabarrier wall units so competitively priced, unobtrusive
and virtually maintenance free it is a very attractive economic
proposition."
This has not gone unnoticed by McDonald's. The low investment cost
and ease of installation has resulted in the majority of their outlets
in Sweden being equipped with wall units.

Tensabarrier
goes down the Tube
- London Underground Ltd. chose Tensabarrier for
provision of new queue management equipment
Tensabarriers are a familiar sight in the London Underground with
many stations still making good use of the early Mark I Tensabarriers.
Recently, as part of a policy to introduce better passenger access
and improve traffic flow, 700 new Tensabarriers were ordered, along
with 140 sign holders and 74 combination sigh holder/leaflet dispensers.
The standard Yellow post with black/yellow diagonally stripped webbing
was specified, a color combination which is particularly effective
in public areas.
Fluctuations in traffic and the ebb and flow of daily commuters
are constant problems for which the Tensabarrier provides an ideal
solution.
Phil Roddy, Senior Buyer for London Underground Network Purchasing,
said, "As part of our commitment to customers we want to improve
efficiency and cut down time spent queuing. The flexibility of a
Tensabarrier system is particularly useful in helping us manage
increases in traffic at peak times, as you can imagine, it is especially
useful in the rush-hour".
Some 60 stations throughout the network will be furnished with the
new Tensabarriers, including Heathrow and many busy central stations
such as Piccadilly Circus.
The equipment will be used to help improve queue management at ticket
offices, direct traffic to maximize escalator efficiency and close
off access to escalators that may need maintenance.
So it's true! Tensabarrier goes down the tube, but only to do what
it does best - provide customer guidance and queue management for
London Underground.

Hybrid
TensaGuide system in trails at Madrid Airport
The original Tensabarrier was developed for the British Airports
Authority and airports with their exceptionally high volumes of
transitory pedestrian traffic still prove to be a challenging environment
for any queue management product.
When the authority that controls the airports in Spain decided to
evaluate a new system, Tensabarrier was the automatic choice.
Because of the heavy peak traffic, especially in summer, Spanish
airports need something that offers the strength and resilience
of a fixed rail system, but that is also adaptable enough to accommodate
fluctuations in volume.
An ingenious Tensaguide system incorporating Tensabarrier units
which provide the flexibility to allow the queue layout to be varied
according to traffic density, has been provided in answer to this
problem.
Although Tensaguide is designed for use in extremely busy environments
where flow change is not critical it was specifically developed
to complement and integrate with Tensabarrier. This is good example
of the way in which the two products can work in harmony.
Oliver Perrault, the Spanish Tensabarrier distributor is enthusiastic
about the installation. "This hybrid Tensaguide system is currently
being evaluated in the check-in area at Madrid. It's a big opportunity
for us because if all goes well the system will be put into use
at airports throughout the country."
